OpenAI, the creators of the widely-used ChatGPT, have recently introduced new features and significant price reductions for programmers using their API. This article explores the latest updates and how they have enhanced the ChatGPT experience.

To improve function recognition and provide JSON answers aligned with function signatures, OpenAI has released upgraded GPT models, including the state-of-the-art GPT-4 and GPT-4-0613. The GPT-4-32k-0613 model expands the context limits, enabling better comprehension of longer texts and enhancing ChatGPT’s capabilities. Currently, only developers on the waiting list have access to these new models.

With the introduction of GPT-3.5-turbo-0613, OpenAI has updated the GPT-3.5 Turbo series, granting users more control over the chatbot through system messages. The GPT-3.5-turbo-16k model can now handle up to 20 pages of text in a single request, making it suitable for managing lengthy documents. Under the new pricing structure introduced by GPT-3.5-turbo-16k, token inputs cost $0.003 and token outputs cost $0.004.

Starting from June 27, 2023, OpenAI has begun the process of updating and eventually phasing out earlier versions of these models. Stable model applications will be seamlessly upgraded, including those using gpt-3.5-turbo, gpt-4, and gpt-4-32k. However, developers requiring more time to adjust can continue using the older models by sending API queries with the gpt-3.5-turbo-0301, gpt-4-0314, or gpt-4-32k-0314 parameters. Please note that this offer is available until September 13, 2023.

In a bid to increase accessibility, OpenAI has significantly reduced the cost of several popular models. For example, the price of the text-embedding-ada-002 model has dropped by 75% to $0.0001 per 1k tokens. The gpt-3.5-turbo model, the core of ChatGPT, has also received a 25% price reduction, now priced at $0.0015 per 1k input tokens and $0.002 per 1k output tokens.

These changes reflect OpenAI’s commitment to improving the user experience of ChatGPT while addressing security and privacy concerns. The company’s iterative approach to upgrading existing models showcases their dedication to meaningful advancements. Despite being in the early stages of developing a new model to replace GPT-4, OpenAI remains committed to expanding the capabilities of AI.

In conclusion, the recent enhancements to the ChatGPT API and the reduced pricing demonstrate OpenAI’s dedication to delivering an improved ChatGPT experience. As OpenAI continues to develop the ChatGPT platform, users can expect further improvements and groundbreaking innovations.
